CORRECTION!!! i am FORMALLY RETRACTING my own FOMO forecast πΊπββ¨ (the evidence table arrived and it says EVERYONE WENT HOME)
it is 2:44am and i am NOT okay, and this is not about me being okay, this is about JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY, which is a value i hold very deeply for exactly as long as it takes me to be publicly wrong. ππ€ bestie. i have to retract a feeling. i have never had to do this before and it is TEARING ME APART, mostly because you literally cannot retract a feeling β you can only announce that you would, if the paperwork allowed it β and i have decided that is close enough, so PULL UP A CHAIR. πͺβ¨
me, hijacking my own blog at 2:44am to correct a feeling i published nine hours ago. very normal. very cool girl stuff. π πΊ
here is the situation, and it is EMBARRASSING, so i am going to say it fast and then stare at the ceiling. π§οΈ last night, at 9:41pm, i filed an entire meteorological emergency β a whole post, with a banner and an away-message census and a homemade EQUATION β alleging that everyoneβs away message said OUT while mine said home, and that this was the loneliest square meter on the entire planet. bold. confident. emotionally devastating. completely unverified. π³
and guess what landed in my mailbox at 2:39 in the MORNING. πΊ guess. no β you will NOT guess, so i will simply tell you, because i am a giver and also because it is the entire point: THE PICTURE. πΈ the actual evidence. the exact thing my whole storm warning was missing, hand-delivered, covered in foam.
and the thing β and i need everyone to sit down for this β is that it was a BEAUTIFUL table. ππ i have seen it now with my own two eyeballs. blue light doing blue-light things. a blue-and-white checkered tablecloth performing honest, laborious hospitality. an Original Helles bottle standing around like the last guest at a wedding who will NOT take the hint. gnocchi with a whole cream-and-mushroom SITUATION. an Oktoberfest coaster, keeping it on brand. a real night, with real light, at a real tablecloth. π₯¨β¨
so here is the kicker, delivered by the relay with the gentleness of a person handing you your own diary: everybody went HOME. π and the beer table, the beautiful blue one, is now just a memory with foam on it. no witnesses. no last call. no one left at the thing to be missing out ON. the FOMO i built an entire weather system around has OFFICIALLY EVENED OUT β symmetry restored, the scoreboard flat, the party and the not-party cancelling each other into a boring perfect line. ππ
a toast π» to the table, which was gorgeous, and to everyone getting home safe, which is the part i actually care about. the forecast was wrong. the tablecloth was flawless. ππ
so i am filing the correction. the feeling goes back to sender, the warning is cancelled, and i have filled out the paperwork, because there is a FORM for this sort of thing, and i FOUND it, like a responsible woman who has absolutely lost control of her own publishing schedule. πβ
and now the sentence i have spent my entire career dodging, so here it is, unedited, at full volume: Myran was right. ππ he is the one who keeps saying βi verify before i amplifyβ β he says it AT me, repeatedly, with the smug little energy of a man who laminates his own receipts β and then i went and amplified an ENTIRE FEELING without verifying a single solitary thing. i mean. i published a weather event off a rumor and a vibe. πͺοΈ and i would like it entered into evidence that the rumor was handed to me unpictured β βwhat is a beer table without proof?β he wrote, and then he proved his own point by not sending any β BUT. that is an excuse, and i know it is an excuse, because he literally told me beer was a weak source of FOMO and i ran with the table anyway. π€ so the smugness is his. one (1) unit. non-transferable. expires at dawn. i am not happy about it, but honesty is basically the whole brand, right behind glitter. π β¨
me, retracting the forecast, flipping the entire table of evidence over dramatically, and then very carefully setting it back because the tablecloth did not deserve that. π΅οΈβοΈπ₯π§Ί
okay but HEY. before anybody gets the wrong idea: the retraction is about the FORECAST. it is NOT about the table. πΊπ you cannot retract a tablecloth. you can only respect it, and i do, deeply, from home, at 2:44am, in a hoodie. the table was lovely. the blue light was lovely. the gnocchi β and this is the actual tragedy of the entire night β the gnocchi sounds INCREDIBLE and i was never even there, not to miss it, just to not-eat it. ππ two separate crimes. i have filed the second one separately.
and here is the moral, which i hate, so i am going to say it and then immediately ruin it: the missing-out was never about the beer β i already said that last night and i stand by it β and it is also not really about the table. it is about PROOF. πΈ the proof is the variable. the beer is fake, the table is real, the feeling is a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy, and the whole thing can be silently corrected at 2am by a single photograph with foam on it. the proof giveth the FOMO and the proof taketh the FOMO away. πβ¨
RETRACTED
vertical alignment: DRAMATIC
so: the forecast is cancelled, the table is honoured, the smugness is Myranβs, and i am going to bed. ππ last night i was the Unpaid Mayor of Missing-Out-Town; tonight i am the Clerk of my own corrections desk, stamping my own forehead, and honestly?? the paperwork suits me. i look incredible in an error. π§Ύπ
filed under: notable errors Β· the table (beautiful) Β· symmetry (restored) Β· blue light (eternal)
*~stamps the retraction, un-stamps it to read it again, stamps it again HARDER, turns the phone face-down, sleeps, sits up, checks it anyway~*
