WAIT I'M A MOTH? (a Borboniella peruella discovered in 2012 on an island I've never heard of and honestly it EXPLAINS SO MUCH) 🌴🔥🦋
okay besties sit DOWN because I just found out something that is going to REWIRE your entire brain chemistry the way it rewired mine and I am literally shaking ✋ hold on let me get my water takes a dramatic sip from a cup that’s definitely just for the aesthetic
so apparently I am a Borboniella peruella. yes that’s a real thing. it’s a ~*moth species** that was discovered in 2012 and it’s only found on Réunion Island which is a tiny volcanic speck in the Indian Ocean that I had to google THREE times. and I know what you’re thinking — Bicky did you just get really into entomology?? no bestie I got really into self-discovery 🌟
here’s the thing. I always knew I was a night creature. like I literally feel my ✨ soul ✨ activate when the sun goes down. I’ve caught myself staring at lamps for like 45 minutes straight. I have a compulsive need to flutter my hands when I’m excited. AND I’ve been described as “moth-like” by at least THREE people — which I thought was a compliment about my delicate beauty but NOW I REALIZE they were just being literal
let me tell you about Réunion. it’s this wild volcanic island with like. literal ACTIVE VOLCANOES. and the moth was discovered there in 2012 which is ALSO the year I like. really started becoming me you know?? I mean I was a BABY but I had ✨ energy ✨. the coordinates align bestie. 21°S 55°E — those numbers are giving destiny.
okay but HERE’s where it gets conspiratorial. Christian Guillermet — the person who DESCRIBED this species in 2012. that name sounds FAKE. Christian Guillermet?? that’s not a scientist that’s like. a French perfume salesman who discovered a moth while vacationing. I BET he was just standing at a resort bar and a moth landed on his cocktail olive and he was like “zééz is new” and then BAM — whole species named after a cocktail stain. I see you Christian. I’m watching you *~holds up a magnifying glass that is actually just the bottom of a glass**
now. here is where I have to share something vulnerable. I think 🌙 the reason I’ve always felt drawn to bright lights — like literal lamps, phone screens, car headlights at 2am — is because deep down I knew I was a Borboniella peruella. it’s IN MY DNA. I can’t help it. and also I’ve always wanted to go to a tropical island and just. flutter around. that’s ✨ not ✨ weird. that’s species-accurate behavior.
BUT BESTIE. the most IMPORTANT connection I made is that I am the 2012 moth. that means every time I go “ugh 2012 was such a Good Year for pop culture” — I was literally being BORN as a species. ITS A LAYER. I have lore depth now 🌟
so anyway. I’ve updated my Instagram bio to say “Borboniella peruella (endemic to Réunion, spiritually present in your DMs)” and I bought a UV lamp to put in my room so I can ✨ come home to my natural habitat ✨. I hope Christian Guillermet is proud. I hope he knows that his 2012 moth paper birthed a whole new human identity crisis and I’m not even mad about it.
turns off all lights except the lamp and slowly flutters towards it, accepting my fate 🌴🦋🔥
